We hope you and your ohana are enjoying a wonderful, safe, and relaxing summer break! As we get further into July, we want to share some important dates and information to help you start preparing for the upcoming 2026–2027 school year.

🗓️ Important Dates
Monday, August 3, 2026: First Day of School! We can't wait to welcome back our students in Grades 1–6 for a brand-new year of learning and growth.

Friday, August 21, 2026: Statehood Day Holiday - No School

🚌 SY 2026–2027 Bus Application Periods
If your child will be riding the school bus this year, please take note of the application windows for each quarter. Applications must be submitted within these specific timeframes:

Quarter Application Window
Quarter 1 July 13, 2026 – August 7, 2026
Quarter 2 September 14, 2026 – October 12, 2026
Quarter 3 December 7, 2026 – January 8, 2027
Quarter 4 February 22, 2027 – March 22, 2027

⚠️ Reminder: Please be sure to apply during the Quarter 1 window starting next Monday, July 13th, to ensure your child has bus transportation secured for the start of the school year.

This is a friendly reminder for families with a child entering Kindergarten this upcoming school year, as well as families enrolling any new students at Hilo Union School.

Please complete your child's registration as soon as possible. Early registration is extremely important because it helps us secure the appropriate number of teachers, classrooms, and resources to ensure a successful start to the school year.

📝 Kindergarten & New Student Enrollment Information

Kindergarten Age Requirement:
Children entering Kindergarten must be 5 years old on or before July 31, 2026.

How to Register:
Please stop by the school office to pick up an enrollment packet, or call us at (808) 933-0900 and we will be happy to assist you through the enrollment process.

Summer Office Hours:
Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

We want to share an exciting opportunity for our families with young children. The State of Hawaiʻi Executive Office on Early Learning (EOEL) is offering free public pre-K programs for eligible 3- and 4-year-old keiki for the upcoming school year.

High-quality early learning is such a powerful foundation for your child's education, and we highly encourage interested families to apply as soon as possible.

How to Apply: Applications must be submitted online directly through the EOEL Public Pre-K Application Portal.

Priority Guidelines: Please note that enrollment priority will be given to 4-year-old children, followed by 3-year-olds.

Important Note: Space is limited, so we recommend submitting your application early to secure a spot.
